Just over a week after OJ Simpson died following a battle with prostate cancer, one of the disgraced athlete’s credit cards was auctioned off.
According to TMZ, Jonathan Lepore is selling the merchant account card through Goldin Auctions. He shared with the media outlet that he had purchased the expired January 2023 credit card on eBay last summer for $70. He later added it to his sports memorabilia collection.
Lepore explained that he had planned to give the piece of plastic to his friend’s father, who used to hang out with OJ Simpson and his wife Nicole Brown in the Hamptons in the ’80s and early ’90s.
However, Lepore said he has not been able to contact his friend’s father since purchasing the card. Since then he decided to sell the card through auction. The media outlet stated that the card shows minor peripheral wear. It also has small spots of discoloration.
Simpson, notably, also did not sign the back of the credit card.
Speaking to TMZ, Goldin founder and CEO Ken Goldin discussed the fact that Simpson was charged and later acquitted of the murders of Nicole and her friend Ron Goldman. He noted that the infamous murders and trial could bring more attention to the credit card.
“With the recent passing of OJ, this card is a small part of that story,” Goldin explained. “And we could see some interesting numbers at the auction.”
Lepore said he didn’t plan to keep all the money Simpson’s credit card might attract. He will donate 10% of the final sale to the National Network to End Domestic Violence.

According to OJ Simpson’s executor, Malcolm Lavergne, the late controversial athlete was not surrounded by his loved ones at the time of his death as originally claimed.
While speaking with AP News, Lavergne revealed that Simpson was one visitor away from dying alone. However, she did not reveal who was at the former NFL star’s side when she succumbed to prostate cancer. He did point out that it was a “close relative.”
OJ Simpson had five children. His daughter, Aaren Simpson, tragically died by accidental drowning just before her second birthday in 1979. The other four children, aged between 35 and 55, are currently alive.
His eldest children, including Aaren, were with his first wife, Marguerite Whitley. His two youngest children, Sydney and Justin, were born from his marriage to Nicole Brown.
OJ Simpson had a decent reputation, due to his NFL career, until 1994. He became a key suspect in the murders of Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman, which took place on June 12, 1994. Although he was acquitted of the murders During the 1995 “Trial of the Century,” Simpson’s reputation never fully recovered.
