OJ Simpson to be cremated, executor says ‘definitive no’ to CTE brain study

Less than a week after OJ Simpson died following a battle with prostate cancer, the disgraced NFL star’s executor announced that not only will his body be cremated, but there are no plans to donate his brain to the science.

According to the New York Post, Simpson’s executor, Malcolm LaVergne, mentioned that he was contacted about the CTE study. “On at least one occasion, someone called saying he’s a CTE specialist who studies the brain.”

The CTE study is for a brain disease known as chronic traumatic encephalopathy. It has been studied in former footballers over the years.

It is associated with cognitive and behavioral problems related to repeated head injuries that soccer players suffer while playing the sport. Common symptoms of CTE include violent behavior.

When asked if OJ Simpson’s brain will be studied, LaVergne stated: “That’s a big no. “His entire body, including his brain, will be cremated.”

However, LaVergne later said he planned to consult the late athlete’s family about the matter. “I can ask the kids about this, but I haven’t heard anything about it,” he said. “So it’s just not going to happen. “OJ wants his entire body to be cremated so that his children can do what they see fit.”

LaVergne noted that Simpson’s four children approved cremation procedures. OJ’s doctor also signed the death certificate in the process. Additional paperwork is scheduled to be completed later today.

“Tuesday is the scheduled day… that he will actually be cremated,” LaVergne said. “That’s what OJ wanted. “Those are OJ’s wishes and that’s what the kids tell me.”

LaVergne did not discuss what Simpson’s children plan to do with the ashes.

OJ Simpson’s estate executor says there are “no specific plans” for a funeral service

Meanwhile, LaVergne shared that there are currently no specific funeral plans for OJ Simpson.

“However, there is a possibility that there will be a celebration of life service at a later date and time,” he said. “Which will be limited to Mr. Simpson’s close circle of friends and family.”

A spokesperson for the Diocese of Orange in Southern California, which manages Ascension Cemetery where OJ’s ex-wife Nicole Brown is buried, shared with the New York Post that the Simpson family has not contacted the organization to no funeral or burial service.

A spokesperson for Golden Gate National Cemetery, where OJ’s parents, Jimm and Eunice, are buried, also stated that he will not be buried there because he is not a veteran. The cemetery is also full.

OJ Simpson became famous in the early ’90s after being accused of murdering Nicole and her friend Ron Goldman. OJ and Nicole were married for seven years and were known to be in an abusive relationship. Nicole filed for divorce in 1992. She shared two children with OJ.

The murders occurred at Nicole’s Brentwood condominium on June 12, 1994. During the “Trial of the Century”, OJ was acquitted of all murder charges.

OJ shared three children with his first wife, Marguerite Whitley. His daughter, Aaren, accidentally drowned in the late 1970s.
