A veteran Hollywood private detective has revealed new details about who may have been behind the infamous 1994 murders of OJ Simpson’s ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman.
According to private investigator Paul Barresi said Los Angeles collection agency owner John Dunton alleged the disgraced NFL star had hired hitmen from the Gambino mafia family to kill Nicole. He said she has remained silent over the years for fear of “retaliation” from the mob.
Barresi played a recording of the conversation he had with Dunton for the New York Post. While speaking with Barresi, Dunto said that he had learned of Simpson’s whereabouts on the night of Nicole and Ron’s murders from a person in his circle, who was related to the famous athlete.
However, Dunton did not fully reveal who had given him that information. Barresi said she first spoke to the owner of the collection agency 30 years ago.
Despite not getting much out of him at the time of OJ’s 1995 murder trial, the private investigator decided to contact Dunton once again after news broke about Simpson’s death.
OJ Simpson was acquitted of the murders during the “Trial of the Century” in 1995. He was later found responsible for the deaths of Nicole and Ron in a 1997 civil case brought by the Browns and Goldman. He had been ordered to pay $33.5 million to the families, but was never paid in full.
Collection Agency Owner Claims Deaths of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman Were ‘Mob Hit’
Barresi shared that he spoke with Dunton last week about what happened the night of the murder. Dunton had insisted the murders were a “mob hit.”
“100 percent,” Dunton insisted in the taped interview. “The four guys who came were members of the Gamino family.”
“They were involved in all kinds of things. You know what the mafia does. The bottom line is that everything was done under OJ’s direction. “That’s what happened.”
Dunton further claimed that OJ Simpson had gone to Nicole’s condo in Brentwood to witness the murders.
“He was there,” she continued. “I don’t know what he did, but he was there. She knew that these men were going to Nicole’s house to kill her. He wanted to be there. I do not know why”.
Dunton continued to talk about Simpson, stating that he was “glad” the athlete was dead. “What he did was really horrible,” he added. “And I went through hell for that.”
Dunton said that because he was friendly with police, he informed them about what he had learned about the murders.
Although he wanted to remain anonymous, he was called to testify about what he knew before a grand jury investigating OJ’s friend Al Cowling. When he refused to testify, the judge jailed Dunton for contempt.
Meanwhile, Dunton’s former attorney, Robert Rentzer, shared that he finally got his client out of jail after 23 days. He admitted that he never heard anything about the mob attack on Nicole Brown Simpson. But he did acknowledge that previously Dunton was afraid to say anything.
OJ Simpson died on Wednesday, April 10 after a battle with prostate cancer. He was 76 years old at the time of his death.
