Nikki Catsouras and her parents had lunch together on October 31, 2006 at Ladera Ranch, California, the house where they all lived. After that, her mother Lesli stayed at home while her father Christos Catsouras went to work.
Ten minutes later, Nikki’s mother saw the Porsche 911, Carrera, which she was not allowed to drive, driven by Christos, reversing out of the driveway. After Leslie called him, she began looking for her daughter while she was driving.

Around 1:38 p.m., Nikki was driving on Toll Road 241 in Lake Forest when she crashed into a Honda Civic while attempting to pass it on the right at a speed of more than 100 mph (160 km).
The Porsche crashed into an unmanned concrete tollbooth near the Alton Parkway interchange after crossing the middle width of the road, which on that stretch is free of physical barriers. The blow killed Nikki instantly. Her body had signs of cocaine, but not alcohol, according to toxicology tests.
Leaked photographs
The incident was due to the release of photographs taken by the police, which caused a huge discussion. Aaron Reich and Thomas O’Donnell, two CHP employees, admit to sharing the images against company protocol.
While Aaron said he had forwarded the footage to four other people, Thomas said in interviews that he had only sent it to his email account for further viewing. Nikki’s family sued the California Highway Patrol and the two dispatch supervisors responsible for leaking the photos in California Superior Court for Orange County.
Nikki’s family and the CHP reached a settlement on January 30, 2012, as a result of which the family received around $2.37 million in compensation for their damages.
