Nick Lachey Says His Kids Thought He Was Cool After The Masked Singer

Sadly, Nick Lachey’s three children were not fans of his boy band 98 Degrees, but luckily he won their approval when he competed on The Masked Singer. The former boy band member shares Camden John Lachey, 9, Brooklyn Elisabeth Lachey, 7, and Phoenix Robert Lachey, 5, with his wife, Vanessa Lachey. Nick was previously married to singer Jessica Simpson from 2002 through 2006, and the pair starred on the MTV reality series, Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, for three seasons. The star was a part of 98 Degrees from 1996 through 2002, along with founder Jeff Timmons, Justin Jeffre, and his younger brother Drew Lachey. He then went on to have a solo music career, releasing songs like “What’s Left Of Me” and “I Can’t Hate You Anymore.”

However, he finally impressed his children with his The Masked Singer appearance. Nick competed on the singing reality show during season 5 as the Piglet. He made it to the finals with the Chameleon, revealed as rapper Wiz Khalifa, and Black Swan revealed as singer-actress JoJo. Nick’s final performance of Journey’s “Faithfully” was enough to win over the hearts of fans and panelists, and the star won the competition, taking home the coveted masked trophy. A significant clue that pointed to Nick were a dating competition show themed clue package that matched his role as the host of Love Is Blind.

With all that Nick has accomplished in his career, The Masked Singer happens to be the only thing that has impressed his children. Nick and Vanessa stopped by The Ellen Degeneres Show, where Nick told guest host Twitch that his fans don’t care about his celebrity status or career success. Nick revealed, “They didn’t care about 98 Degrees, they didn’t care about any of that stuff, but when I did Masked Singer, that was the moment that dad became cool with the kids.” Vanessa added that the reason Nick did the show was to entertain and make his children happy.

It took dressing up like a pig and singing on national television to be cool to my kids, so, whatever it takes,” Nick joked. Apparently, the boy bander’s kids also don’t like hearing him sing around the house, as when he does, they tell him to stop. Vanessa joked that it was Nick’s singing that put a roof over their head. Unfortunately, the actress revealed that just like her kids, she wasn’t the biggest 98 Degrees fan either and actually preferred Justin Timberlake’s group NSYNC. However, Nick didn’t seem too insulted that neither his wife nor kids loved his boyband era.

While Nick’s family may not be fond of his boy band days, at least he could put a smile on his children’s faces by performing on The Masked Singer. He also brought joy to so many fans of the show who loved hearing his voice every week. He was even loved enough to be voted the winner. So even though his kids were not impressed by his other career moves, at least they were excited to see him win The Masked Singer.

The Masked Singer airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. EST on FOX.
