A new piece of fan art is bringing attention to the romance of Teen Titans’ Beast Boy and Raven. The superhero couple previously headlined a book titled Teen Titans: Beast Boy Loves Raven by writer Kami Garcia and artist Gabriel Picolo.
For a long time, Garfield Logan AKA Beast Boy and Raven Roth were more different from each other than anyone else on the team. However, since opposite attract, writers have since paired up the two teenage heroes. In Teen Titans: Beast Boy Loves Raven, they come together following their individual books as they encounter Slade. Other media such as HBO Max’s Titans have also adapted the superheroes’ relationship, portraying them as opposites with a shared interest in the greater good. The artist of Beast Boy Loves Raven has continued to promote their romance on social media.
In a tweet and a corresponding Instagram post, Gabriel Picolo shared fan art of Beast Boy and Raven on a date, eating salads at a restaurant. Posing for pictures for one another, their portraits perfectly encapsulate their personalities. The three pieces of fan art give a “slice of life” impression of their date. In a tweet, Picolo elaborated on the fan art, writing, “Beast Boy is trying to convince all his roomies to eat green, but he was only able to convince Raven so far.”
In the past, Picolo’s depictions of the Teen Titans has similarly brought the teenage superhero team down to Earth. Making them relatable to readers, the Titans have been a perfect fit with his distinct style. Beast Boy and Raven’s relationship has represented that dynamic with fans, providing some basis of relatability for characters with powers that are larger than life. Although the DC Universe is home to a pantheon of epic heroes, such as the Justice League, Picolo’s take on the Teen Titans often feels special with how grounded they are in reality.
Illustrating casual scenes like Beast Boy and Raven’s date night, Picolo has also drawn the two hanging around the house and grocery shopping. The change of scenery from Titans Tower and battles with supervillains has humanized the couple, making them one of the best romances in the DC Universe. With their contrasting personalities, they consistently show one another something different about the world. Gabriel Picolo’s interpretation of the Teen Titans has quickly gained popularity as he has brought them into the real world
