Statements given to media during court trial
During the court hearing of Anni murder case, doctors had advised Neelam Hindocha to take complete rest. However, in some of the trials, she went to court where she heard Srien Dewani’s lawyer urging the judge to have mercy on Srien as his health was not good. Neelam Hindocha said while talking to a media house that what will happen to the health of Anni’s family members who are suffering the pain of Anni’s death? He said,
Shrien’s lawyers always say, “His health, his health, his health”. Has he thought about our health?”
In 2013, it was reported in media houses that Cape Town police officers suspected Shrien Dewani in the Anni Dewani murder case and arrested him. Neelam said in an interview to a media house that her family members were completely surprised to hear such a statement from the South African Police. Neelam said she also heard about post-traumatic stress and depression, which affected the health of Shrin, who was admitted to a mental hospital. She felt sympathy for him and said,
I feel sorry for Shrien, he is my son-in-law and he is as devastated by this as we are. He is ill and I sympathize with him. His life was broken forever. But he will get a chance to improve. What about my grandmother? What about his life?”
Neelam Hindocha further claimed that Srien Devani loved Anni very much, and that Neelam and her family members were unhappy that Anni’s husband, who loved Anni, had murdered her. Neelam said that Srien Dewani was not attending his court hearing in South Africa, which left the entire story behind the murder unclear. He said,
I have lost my beautiful daughter. Unless he tells me the whole story – this stress is killing me.”
In a statement given to the media house, Neelam Hindocha expressed doubt that Annie and Shrin had gone to a secluded place in South Africa where no one goes at night. She wondered how Anni agreed to go to such an unsafe place in South Africa, while Srien already knew that the Gugulethu area was not a good place to visit. He said,
Srien knew that the area was not good. Actually no one goes there at night. They were staying at the Cape Grace Hotel and she must have loved the nightlife there. “They would never have advised him to go to Gugulethu in the middle of the night.”
According to Neelam Hindocha, initially Anni had no interest in Shrien Dewani. It was Shrien who followed him, followed him and always called him. She told that Anni and Shrien had met through their common friends in London and Shrien had impressed Anni by giving her expensive gifts and flowers. He also revealed that Srien had proposed to Annie Devani on a private jet to Paris. According to Neelam Hindocha, the day Anni Dewani died, she was feeling uncomfortable. Neelam said in an interview to a media house that this was a mother’s instinct. That day she kept calling Anni and on the other hand Anni also told Neelam for the last time that she had a lot to tell but she would come home and tell her. He said,
The day she died, I realized – it was a mother’s instinct. I just kept saying to myself, “Ring Ani.” It was an uncomfortable feeling. I called her and she said she had a lot to say but it could wait. That was the last time we spoke.”
According to Neelam Hindocha, Shrien called Vinod Hondocha on 13 November 2010 and told Vinod that Anni had been kidnapped and attacked, and Shrien also apologized for not taking care of our daughter. Stayed. He said,
When Shrien called us early in the morning when we learned that Anni had been attacked, he was crying and kept saying, “I couldn’t take care of her, I’m sorry.”
