All about Neal Currey
Neal Currey is the creator of Ready Gunner, one of the most popular full-service gun stores in the country. He was successful in business mainly because of his family legacy. Currey’s grandfather, Jack, started a raft business on the San Juan River in southern Utah in the 1950s. Rafts are still used on major rivers today. Steve, Neal’s father, took over the family’s Idaho business as a guide, guiding clients down the Selway and Middle Fork of the Salmon River.
Neal Currey went on a river cruise with his father, and by the age of 24 he had visited all continents. Neal said he started rowing luggage when he was 14 years old. He spent nearly ten years working in the family business before embarking on his next adventure. He say,
“That was after 9/11. This made an impression on me, and certainly with other Americans, and I felt the urge to act. It pissed me off. “I wanted to help. my country in some way.”
Currey joined the Army on a Option 40 contract and was immediately assigned to the 75th Ranger Regiment. He joined the 2nd Ranger Battalion and attended Ranger School. He then enrolled in the 75th Ranger Regiment’s course, which lasted three weeks. He decided that he would complete the final part of the land navigation in the next 24 to 36 hours, after which he could go home to rest. Neal Currey’s father was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer shortly after he returned to the 2nd Ranger Battalion and was deployed to Afghanistan. He returned to Utah, buried his father, and finished everything in two days. As a member of the JSOC Executive Team, he carried out actionable attacks.
After his military service, he worked for Specialized Reconnaissance Assault Transport Systems as a consultant and project manager (SRATS). He eventually moved on to contract work with Triple Canopy as a member of the Counter Assault Team overseas. Eventually, he decided to get a federal gun license and opened a gun shop in Utah. Ready Gunner is currently a 20,000 square foot facility with various shooting ranges and a monthly schedule of two dozen shows.
