NCAA Women’s Softball 2023: WCWS is one of the most prestigious softball tournaments in the world. It features some of the best college softball players in the country and attracts a large fan base each year. WCWS is also a major televised event, with games airing on the ESPN network.
There are 64 teams participating in the NCAA Women’s Softball Championship. 32 teams are automatically entered into the tournament, while the remaining 32 are selected by the Division I Softball committee. From this 64 field, 16 teams will receive a “national seed” and be placed in one of the designated regional points, usually the home field of each national seed.
Usually, the higher-seeded team has the privilege of hosting the best of the three series, which counts as a place in the Women’s Collegiate World Championship. In this prestigious event, the final eight teams meet at the United States Softball Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City. WCWS consists of two separate parts. Initially, the competition mirrored the regional round, when teams were divided into two groups of four and engaged in a double knockout format. The winners from each group will then go head-to-head in a championship series, like a super-region stage, where they compete in a best-of-three series. In the end, the winning team in the WCWS was named the national champion.
