Following the recent arrest of Chris Young in Nashville, the city’s district attorney, Glenn Funk, has decided to dismiss all charges against the country music star.
As previously reported, Young was charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and assault on an officer after an altercation at a Demonbreun Street bar on Monday, January 22. Agents from the Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) had conducted a compliance check on the establishment. which Young was in. He allegedly interrogated them and recorded them.
As officers left the bar, Young attempted to stop them from leaving. One of the officers then claimed that the country singer “hit” him on the shoulder and engaged in disruptive behavior. Disruptions included yelling and screaming.
After being arrested by officers, Chris Young spent one night in the Nashville Metro Jail before being released the next day. He was originally scheduled to appear in court on the charges on February 16.
However, according to WKRN, Funk dismissed the charges after Young’s attorney, Bill Ramsey, Neal, & Harwell, PLC, released a video showing the musician at the bar with officers. Surveillance video also showed the moment Young raised his arm in the direction of the officer. Then you see how one of the agents pushes him and he falls to the ground.
The news outlet noted that the officer had written about the shoving in the arrest report, stating that he pressured Young to “create distance” between them. A fellow officer said they tried to talk to Young, but he said the singer was not following orders. Young’s eyes appeared to be bloodshot and he spoke slurred during the incident.
Funk reviewed all of the evidence from the night and determined that the charges would be dismissed.
Chris Young’s Attorney Issues Statement Regarding Dropping Charges
After the Nashville District Attorney dismissed the charges, Chris Young’s attorney released the following statement. “Mr. Young and I are pleased with the district attorney’s decision that cleared you of the charges and of any wrongdoing.”
TABC also issued a statement regarding the district attorney’s decision. “We respect General Funk’s decision to drop charges against Mr. Young. All law enforcement and first responders deserve to be safe while on duty. For your safety and theirs, we ask the public not to make physical contact or interfere with officers while they are working.”
Meanwhile, Young is preparing to release his ninth studio album. Young love and Saturday nights. He claimed on Instagram that the album, which has 18 tracks, is his biggest to date. It will be released on March 22.
