Naba Kishore Das was an Indian politician who retained the assembly seat from Jharsuguda constituency for three consecutive terms, i.e. in 2009, 2014 and 2019. On 29 January 2023, while on his way to an event, Kishore was shot multiple times by Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Gopal Das at Brajrajnagar Gandhi Chowk in Jharsuguda district of Odisha. After suffering for a few hours due to gunshot injuries, he breathed his last at Apollo Hospital in Bhubaneswar.

Naba Kishore Das was born on Sunday, 7 January 1962 (age 61 years at the time of death) in Mirgamunda, Maneswar Block, Sambalpur District, Odisha. His zodiac sign was Capricorn. Kishor was re-elected to the Jharsuguda Assembly seat as an Indian National Congress candidate by defeating Biju Janata Dal Party candidate Kishore Kumar Mohanty by a margin of 11,563 votes.
2019 assembly elections
Kishore Das resigned from the Indian National Congress (INC) party on 16 January 2019 and joined the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) party. He contested from Jharsuguda constituency and defeated Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Dinesh Kumar Jain by a margin of 45699 votes. Kishor was sworn in as the Minister of Health and Family Welfare in the government of Naveen Patnaik on 29 May 2019.

Accused of watching porn clip inside the assembly building
On 14 December 2015, during the Odisha Assembly session, Naba Kishore Das was caught by a television camera person watching pornographic material on his mobile phone. On 15 December 2015, he was accused of insulting the dignity of the assembly and was ultimately suspended from the Odisha Assembly for a week. On the contrary, Naba Kishore termed the allegations as baseless and said that the adult content page accidentally appeared on his phone screen while surfing the net. He said,
I was browsing my phone when I accidentally touched the YouTube app and this clip popped up. The video is on YouTube. The company has sent it and I have not deliberately chosen it.
In December 2018, Kishore was acquitted of the charges leveled against him, following a lack of evidence to validate the allegations.

Death
On January 29, 2023, Kishor, when he was on his way to inaugurate a party office in Brajrajnagar in Jharsuguda district of Odisha, was shot by an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) rank policeman, Gopal Das. As Kishore got out of his car to meet his supporters near Gandhi Chowk, Gopal fired at him several times from his service revolver. The teenager, who had a bullet wound on the left side of his chest, was immediately airlifted to Apollo Hospital in Bhubaneswar, where he was given immediate treatment. After suffering from injuries for a few hours, the teenager was declared dead by the hospital authorities. The statement issued by Apollo Hospital stated the reason behind his death,
Upon operation, it was found that a single bullet had entered and exited the body, damaging the heart and left lung and causing massive internal bleeding and bruising. Injuries were repaired, and steps were taken to improve the pumping of the heart. He was immediately given ICU care. But despite all efforts, he could not be saved and he died due to his injuries.

However, police officials have not revealed Gopal’s motive behind killing the teenager. Kishore Das was cremated with full state honors on 30 January 2023 at Kherual village near Jharsuguda district of Odisha.

What would I say if I heard the news? How can I tell why he took this step? I haven’t talked to him since morning. He talked to my daughter on video call around 11 am today, but he suddenly disconnected the phone. His mental condition was not good and he was also taking medicines for this. He was on medication for the last 8 years. He was behaving well after taking medicines.
However, according to some media sources, it was reported that Gopal Das was suffering from bipolar disorder, a medical health condition that causes rapid changes in one’s mood, energy levels, and behavior.
