Molly McLaren attended the University of Kent at the age of 23. On the dating app Tinder in 2016, Molly met a man named Joshua Stimpson. They actually only met in October of that year and started dating shortly after. But Molly ended the relationship permanently in June 2018 and Stimpson soon began harassing her online, posting offensive comments and pictures.

McLaren told friends via social media that she was terrified of her former partner and went to the police station in North Kent with her mother, Joanna.

Just two days before McLaren was murdered, Stimpson received another contact from a police officer warning him to stop or face charges. Security cameras in Chatham saw Stimpson buying a knife from Asda two days before the murder. A pickaxe is another item he bought from Homebase less than 30 minutes later.

Stimpson, who has been following Molly since they split 12 days ago, approached her while she was working out at the gym on June 29, 2018.

Before returning to her Citroen in the Chatham Dockside Outlet parking lot, the worried student confronted her ex and asked if he was spying on her.

After texting Joanne’s mother at 10:45 a.m. to let her know Stimpson had arrived at the gym and was standing next to her, she then exchanged 20 texts with her friend about Stimpson’s behavior. The 23-year-old girl’s killer was waiting for her with a bag containing two knives and a pickaxe that he used to kill her, but she didn’t know it.

As she got into the driver’s seat, Stimpson got out of the car, opened the door for her, and swung the knife at her repeatedly. While screaming and honking, Molly tries to protect him, but she soon dies.
