Mohit Grewal was born in 1999 (age 22 years; as of 2022) in Village Bamla, District Bhiwani, Haryana. Soon after completing his school education, he joined the Department of Physical and Sports at Chaudhary Bansi Lal University to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education.

In the early stages of his career, Mohit Grewal participated in the All India Inter University Wrestling Championship and Khelo India Wrestling Championship and won many medals and accolades. He started taking wrestling training in local akharas in 2012. He then participated in the World Schools Championship in Turkey in 2016 and won the gold medal.
In 2018, he participated in the Junior Asian Championships and won the gold medal. In the years 2019 and 2020, he did not participate in any wrestling championship due to a knee injury. According to Mohit Grewal, when he was struggling with the injury, he was suffering mental trauma. In a media interview he told about his injury. He said,
I suffered from patellar tendinitis (injury to the tendon that connects the knee cap to the shin bone) and lost 70 percent of my ligament.
In 2021, he participated in the Senior National Championship and he entered the final by defeating his opponent from Haryana. However, he lost the final match of the championship to Shivraj of Maharashtra. Prior to this, he was the recipient of a gold medal at the U-23 National Championships and a bronze medal winner in the play-offs at the U-23 World Championships. In 2021, he participated in the U-23 National Championships and won the gold medal. The same year, he competed for the bronze medal in the playoffs of the Under-23 World Championships in Belgrade, Serbia. After this he participated in the country’s senior national championship and won a silver medal in the final.
In June 2022, he participated in the senior international tournament held in Almaty (Kazakhstan) and reached the semi-finals of the championship by defeating his opponent Salim Erkan of Turkey 6–1. He lost 10–0 to Yusup Batyrmurzaev of Tokyo, Kazakhstan in the semi-finals of the tournament. He won the bronze medal by defeating his Uzbek opponent Sardarbek Kholmatov 8–2 in the play-off match. Mohit Grewal said while talking to the media that after winning the bronze medal in the Almaty (Kazakhstan) tournament, everyone had stopped talking about his controversy. He said,
It (the medal) silenced everyone. Before the tournament everyone was talking about that controversy but now everything has changed.

In 2022, he came into controversy during the Commonwealth Games (CWG) selection trials when he defeated Indian wrestler Satinder Malik in the final match, but Satinder Malik protested against referee Jagbir Singh’s decision after the results were announced. .
