Melissa McCarthy is very in love with Tom Cruise in his new movie Genius.
The actress is so in love with the movie star that she even received a t-shirt with his face on it. While the actor does not make a physical cameo in the film, he appears through a scene of Mission Impossible.
In a recent interview, Genie writer Richard Curtis talked about setting up the joke and getting Tom’s permission.

“We definitely had to ask him,” Richard confirmed to People.
He went on to recall, “I mean, we asked him through his people. I’m lucky to know Tom a little. He has always been very sweet to me. And we worked on a movie for a while, which didn’t happen.”
“I don’t know if it’s a favor to Melissa and I or if someone in the mailroom said, ‘This sounds good.’ But it means that after all these years, I’ve finally made a Tom Cruise movie,” she said of getting permission.
