Kevin Feige says a massive crossover between Sony and Fox’s Marvel universes could happen in the coming years, confirming their canon status in the MCU.
The introduction of the multiverse in the MCU’s Multiverse Saga made the timeline more confusing, but it also provided an opportunity to resolve long-standing continuity issues and simplify the universe.
Loki will most likely bring about a reckoning for the Marvel Multiverse and address the looming threat posed by Kang the Conqueror, which could lead to the integration of previously separated franchises or a soft reboot of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Kevin Feige teased a multiverse crossover in a new official statement about the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline. It’s been many years since the Infinity Saga, and the Marvel Universe is currently delving into the multiverse saga. While it received much criticism, one of its biggest appeals was the massive crossover promise at its climax. While that’s still a long way off, Feige says it will happen.
In a statement released in the new book, Marvel Studios’ Marvel Cinematic Universe – Official Schedule (pass direct), Feige talked about the Sony and Fox Marvel Universes and confirmed that they are canon in the Marvel Universe. He goes beyond that, arguing that convergence between them is likely to occur in the coming years. Read his full quote below:
“In terms of the multiverse, we recognize that there are stories—movies and series—that are classic Marvel stories, but they were created by different storytellers at different times in Marvel history. The timeline presented in this book is specific to The sacred timeline of Phase 4 of the Marvel Universe. But as we move forward and delve deeper into the multiverse saga, you never know when timelines may collapse or converge (hint, hint/spoiler alert).”
1 How the multiverse solves Marvel’s timeline problem
The MCU has always had issues with micro-continuity, but the introduction of the multiverse in Legends of the Multiverse made things even more confusing. Several projects have tackled this idea, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Spider-Man: No Way Home Provides how the concept actually works in real life. However, amid all the efforts of the MCU multiverse saga, Loki The best preparations have been made for the reckoning in the Marvel Multiverse.
That being said, it also has the ability to address many of the larger issues plaguing the series. As the dangers of multiple realities colliding with each other become increasingly apparent, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes’ overarching goal may be to protect the sacred timeline and prevent any multiverse catastrophe from occurring. Currently, only the God of Mischief is aware of the looming threat posed by Kang the Conqueror, who is taking action. However, it’s a safe bet that as the Marvel Universe progresses, his allies on Earth will realize just how dire the situation is.
Resolving the multiverse could mean that previously separate series would be integrated into the Sacred Timeline, or, according to reports, pave the way for a soft reboot of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Either way, it provides Marvel Studios with a way to solve many of the problems holding back its canon. From there, fans can expect a more streamlined universe.
