Mary Kom is an Indian Olympic boxer. She is the first Indian female boxer to win a gold medal at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games and also the first Indian female boxer to win a gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Chungneijang Mary Kom Hmangtay or simply Mary Kom was born on 1 March 1983 in Kangthei, Manipur, India. He celebrated his 40th birthday in 2023. But age is just a number for him as he won the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2018 in Australia. He started his training in boxing at a very young age and since then he has represented India at the highest level and won many accolades at the international and national levels. She is famous as ‘Magnificent Mary’.

Family

He was born in a low-income family Christian Family. His father, Mangte Tonpa Kom, and his mother, Mangte Akham Kom were tenant farmers. His father was also a wrestler.

He shifted many schools in his childhood. He studied from Loktak Christian Model High School, Moirang, Manipur till sixth grade.

She failed her matriculation exams and left school. Later he completed his 10th class from NIOS. He completed his graduation from Churachandpur College. She was a very athletic person since her childhood and participated in various sports in her school. She was into athletics, but after Dingko Singh’s 1998 Asian Games success, she shifted to boxing.

He is one of India’s biggest boxing stars. His illustrious career took shape at a very early age. She was 15 years old when she went to study at the sports academy in Imphal.
