Early life

Maria Siemionow came into this world on May 3, 1950. She is originally from Krotoszyn, Poland. Her nationality is Polish and her age in 2022 is 72. Details about his family and childhood background are not available on the internet.

Maria Siemionow worked as an Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Utah in 1990. In 1995, she was appointed Director of Plastic Surgery Research and Chief of Microsurgery Training in the Department of Plastic Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic. She also held that position until 2013.

Subsequently, in 2005, Dr. Siemionow was appointed Professor of Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the Lerner School of Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic of Case Western Reserve University. Similarly, in 2003, he completed the first facial transplant in rats, paving the way for the first human face transplant in the United States which he performed in 2008.

That same year, Maria received an honorary academic appointment as Professor of Surgery at the Karol Marcinkowski University of Medical Sciences in Poznan, Poland. Likewise, María is the president of the American Society of Reconstructive Transplantation.

Additionally, his recent awards include the Polish Order of Merit, the Commander’s Cross Poland Restituta award by the President of Poland, the Clinical Investigator of the Year Award from the American Association of Plastic Surgeons, and the Outstanding Achievement in Clinical Research Award from the Surgery Educational Foundation Foundation.

His international awards include the 2012 SAPIENTI SAT Medal endorsed by the Polish Ministry of Education, the 2013 Casimir Funk National Science Prize, and the 2013 Honoris Causa Doctorate awarded by the Poznan University of Medical Sciences. Maria married her husband Wlodzimierz Siemionow on April 27, 1975 at the town hall. They met in Poznan during their university years. Additionally, the couple has a son, Dr. Krzysztof Siemionow. She followed in her parents’ footsteps and pursued a career in medicine. That is why her son works as a spine surgeon at the UIC in Poland.
