Manoj Sarkar is an Indian para-badminton player in the SL-3 classification. He won the bronze medal in the men’s singles category at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics by defeating his rival Daisuke Fujihara of Japan. Till class 10th, Manoj participated in three state level competitions as a general player. In class 11th he also participated in inter-school competitions against capable players. Once, former Indian badminton player DK Sen saw Manoj playing in a match and seeing him playing well, he advised him to participate in the Para-Badminton Championship. After this performance I was selected for the World Championships, but due to lack of sponsors we could not go. Then in 2012 I went with my own money. My mother mortgaged our house so that I could pursue my dreams, even though she was a cancer patient. Then Go Sports Foundation also helped me; I am grateful to him even today and am proud that I am still associated with him. This is how my journey in international para-badminton began and till now I have won around 47 medals at the highest level. It has been a long journey, and now I am part of India’s first Paralympic badminton contingent.

He won the gold medal in the men’s doubles event at the BWF Para-Badminton World Championships in 2015. Manoj won a silver medal at the Irish Para-Badminton International Championships in 2016.
