Facts/General Knowledge

  • In an interview, talking about his struggle of coming from a poor family and playing a sport that is considered for royals or the rich, he said,

I am from an ordinary family of Bhopal. My father is a small fisherman. Growing up, I understood the importance of money from an early age and used to help my father in fishing. I had six siblings and my father could barely earn enough money for all our expenses. Even though life was not easy at that time, I always had the innate motivation to do something in life. The turning point came when I once went to the State Shooting Academy with my elder sister. Our visit to the academy coincided with shotgun trials held at the academy. Ever since I have been playing, I have tried to improve as much as possible in each tournament.

  • Recalling his encounter during the shooting at Madhya Pradesh Academy in an interview, he said,

I remember, I was standing there watching the trials, when Olympian Mansher Singh came to me and asked me to give him a chance in the sport. I didn’t even know the technique required to hold a gun, let alone the prior training required to shoot. However, when I tried the game, something clicked inside me and I hit the target with ease. Impressed by my shots, the officials asked me to take the game seriously and they even offered me training. That moment changed everything for me and the rest is history. Ever since I played my first shot, I have been training extensively and playing with all the dedication I have ever been able to muster. Thanks to the generosity of the state, I was provided with the tools I needed to learn and become better at sports. I stay at the academy only so that there is no distraction.”
