Telugu Desam Party (TDP)
Malla Reddy started his political career by joining N Chandrababu Naidu’s party, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) on 19 March 2014. He won the 2014 general elections from Malkajgiri constituency of Telangana and became the Member of Parliament for the first time. In the 16th Lok Sabha; He was the only TDP MP in Telangana. He left the post of MP on 14 December 2018.

On November 22, 2023, around 50 teams of IT (Income Tax) officials raided the residences of Malla Reddy, his sons, Mahendra Reddy and Bhadra Reddy, son-in-law Mary Rajasekhara Reddy, relative Praveen Reddy and some people close to him. Associates including Trishul Reddy, Raghunath Reddy and Santosh Reddy in Hyderabad and neighboring areas. It was reported that Rs 2 crore in cash was recovered from the house of Trishul Reddy and Rs 2.80 crore from the house of Raghunath Reddy in Jeedimetla.

Fake claims about educational qualification, age and income
Ahead of the 2023 Telangana Assembly elections, a counter affidavit was filed by Medchal resident Kandadi Anji Reddy against Malla Reddy’s election affidavit in the Election Commission of India (ECI). Anji claimed that Malla had made several false declarations regarding his educational qualifications in election affidavits for various elections. Anji claimed that before the 2014 general elections, Malla Reddy had declared in his affidavit that he had passed Intermediate (12th class) from Government Junior College, Patni, Secunderabad in 1973.
