Mehmood Jr. (1956–2023) was an Indian actor, singer and Marathi film director. He is known for his roles in Hindi films like ‘Johar Mehmood in Hong Kong’ (1971), ‘Ghar Ghar Ki Kahani’ (1988), ‘Journey Bombay to Goa: Laughter Unlimited’ (2007), and ‘Jaana Pehchaan’. Is. 2011). He died in December 2023 after battling stomach cancer.

Death

Mahmood, who was suffering from stomach cancer for a long time, died in Mumbai on 8 December 2023.

  • Mehmood Jr. joined the film industry at the age of 9 and in his school he used to act and imitate various actors. He also used to give special presentations in his school programs.
  • Since his elder brother was a photographer on film sets, Mahmood was always curious to see the shooting environment, so he would occasionally accompany his brother.
  • One day while on the sets of a Hindi film titled ‘Kitna Nazuk Hai Dil’ with his brother, Mehmood Jr. saw a child actor struggling to deliver a one-line dialogue. Mahmood stood behind the junior director’s chair and said

    Couldn’t say such a simple line, then act.” (He can’t even say these few lines and he wants to be an actor)

    Then, the director asked Mehmood Jr. if he could speak those lines. He repeated the lines from the scene; However, the film was never released.

  • During the shooting of the Hindi film ‘Suhaag Raat’ (1968), she filmed several of her scenes with Indian actor Mehmood (deceased). In those days, everyone except Mahmood Jr. was invited to the birthday party of Mahmood’s daughter. Mahmood Jr. felt bad after knowing that he was not invited and told this to Mahmood

    He also told Mehmood that if he comes to the party, he will dance on Mehmood’s song ‘Hum Kale Hain To Kya Hua Dilwale Hain’. Mahmood Junior went to the party and did what he had told Mahmood Ali. He performed and everyone liked it. After the party, Mehmood asked Mehmood Jr.’s father to bring him to Ranjit Studio and after reaching there, Mehmood Ali made him his disciple by tying a Ganda (a sacred thread) on his arm and gave him his name. ‘Mahmood Junior’, which he used throughout his career. Mahmood Junior also tied a thread on Mahmood Ali’s arm and gave him five rupees and 25 paise as Dakshina.
