Mahant Raju Das is an Indian spiritual leader who follows the teachings of Mahant Ram Das, one of the four groups of priests responsible for the maintenance of the Hanuman Garhi temple in Ayodhya.

Mahant Raju Das earned Bachelor of Arts, Post Graduate Arts and LLB degrees from KS Saket PG College, Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh. When he was a student, he was associated with Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (RSS student wing).

As he grew up, he became a part of Bajrang Dal. Subsequently, he joined ABVP, the student wing of BJP, after which he participated in the student union elections of Saket Mahavidyalaya of Avadh University. In the early 2000s, he became involved in politics and participated in every community initiative to which he was invited. Raju Das reached Ayodhya at a very young age, did penance and became a disciple of Saint Ram Das. Raju Das was named as one of the 12 possible mayoral candidates of the BJP in Ayodhya ahead of the 2017 municipal elections in Uttar Pradesh.

Reference to ultimatum to Swara Bhaskar and influence of Rakhi Sawant

In February 2023, Mahant Raju Das gave an ultimatum to Bollywood actress Swara Bhaskar to marry a Muslim. Raju Das said in an interview that if Swara Bhaskar was a strong woman then she should not have married. He further said that if Swara wants to spend the night with thousands of boys then she should be happy with her marriage. According to him, Swara Bhaskar married into the community that marries their sisters. Swara Bhaskar was given an ultimatum by Mahant Raju Das, in which he said that she is following the footsteps of Rakhi Sawant.

Heated clash between Mahant Raju Das and SP leader Swami Prasad Maurya in Lucknow: A story of derogatory comments and threats

In February 2023, Mahant Raju Das and SP leader Swami Prasad Maurya were attending a press conference organized by a TV channel in Lucknow when they got into a heated argument in the lobby of a five-star hotel that turned physical. The security guards ran and separated the two. Das later announced a reward for Maurya’s head because Maurya had made some derogatory comments regarding the Ramcharitmanas. Mahant then claimed that he was attacked by the SP leader’s followers and said he would file a complaint against Maurya. The following month, Mahant Raju Das made incriminating statements about Maurya during an interview, claiming that he would beat him a thousand times. he adds,

‘Maura’s mentality is bad, which is now being corrected.’ Now I have been beaten once, if I get beaten a thousand times everything will be fine. Whoever has opposed Ram and Ramcharitmanas has been beaten once and Hindus will beat him a thousand times with shoes, stones, ink, bricks and sticks.”

Mahant Raju Das warns film producer over poster of ‘Kali’ documentary in Ayodhya, controversy erupts

After the unveiling of the poster of Leena Manimekalai’s documentary ‘Kali’, Hanumangarhi temple Mahant Raju Das issued a direct warning to the filmmaker, comparing it to the previous incident in Jaipur. The presence of cigarettes and LGBT flags in the hands of Mata Kali depicted in the film’s poster has drawn strong disapproval among the saints and residents of Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh. He said,

Do you wish that your head gets separated from the body, what is this wish? Now the audacity you have done is forgivable, you may even get forgiveness, but if this film is released then we will create such a situation that you will not be able to handle. There is a filmmaker Leena, whose film makes fun of Sanatan Dharma culture and our Hindu Gods and Goddesses, which is highly condemnable. That is why I am the Home Minister of the country. I demand from them that strictest action should be taken against them and this picture should be banned, in the trailer shown by them, Shakti Swaroopa is shown smoking a cigarette in the mouth of Maa Kali. If Sharma had said the right thing then the entire country would have been on fire. There would have been an earthquake all over the world and you would have made fun of Sanatan Dharma culture? Do you want your head to be separated from the body..! What is this desire?”

Later in an interview, Raju Das said,

This has caused tremendous anger among the saints and Sanatan Dharma lovers, hence I demand the Home Minister to ban such films and take the strictest action against them.”

• Das’s parents abandoned him when he was four and a half years old, leaving him at the Hanumangarhi temple in Ayodhya.

• Raju Das is the Mahant of Ujjainiya Patti.

• In 2022, Raju Das announced that he will give a cash reward of Rs. Whoever kills Shahrukh Hussain, who murdered Class 12 student Ankita in Jharkhand’s Jhumka, will be given Rs 11 lakh.
