“But luckily he texted me and she replied,” Kevin wrote on Players’ Tribune. “We met over text for a few months. It’s a lot easier for me once I meet someone, so after that, it was good.”
Kevin effusively praised the mother of his children for turning his life around. He continued:
“She changed my life in so many ways. I honestly don’t know what I would do without her. She sacrificed everything to move in with me when she was 19, to help me follow my dream. We have been on this journey together. I admire her, in a way. She’s made me come out of my shell with people many times, and the way she’s handled it all is remarkable, really.”

“It’s fun to see the change in the way people treat you in football when you’re doing well. One day the foster parents showed up at the club and the woman came up to me like it was all some big misunderstanding. Maybe she should have found it funny, but at the time she wasn’t for me. They had really hurt me. So I said, ‘No. You threw me. Now I’m fine and you want me to come back? In the end, I should have just said thank you. That experience was the fuel of my career.”
