  • Hindi poet, essayist and short story illustrator, Mahadevi Varma. He is considered an important figure in Hindi literature and one of the four main cornerstones of the genre during the Chhayawadi era. Other Indian poets refer to her as Modern Meera in their memoirs. One of the poets who wrote with the broader aspects of Indian society was Varma, an Indian poet who lived throughout India both before and after independence. She is the winner of all the important awards for Hindi literature. She is an Indian social reformer who has worked for the advancement of women and their education as a civil servant.
  • Varma has promoted social progress, welfare and advancement of Indian women through his works. She influenced many readers and critics for the advancement of women in Indian culture with the publication of her novel Deepshikha. Throughout her life, she continued to be a pioneer for Indian feminism.
  • In addition to writing poetry, she also has a solid background in music. She has written many soothing Hindi songs. She is a good and original translator, as well as an excellent painter.
  • Some books claim that she was born to a devout, fervent and vegetarian mother. Her mother loved music and spent hours reciting Indian epics such as Vinay Patrika, Gita and Ramayana. She got married at the age of eleven, but as soon as she finished school, she decided to live a frugal life instead of going home to her husband.
  • Legendary Indian poet Suryakant Tripathi “Nirala” once called her “Saraswati in the vast temple of Hindi literature”.
