Loretta Lynn’s Granddaughter Emmy Russell Wows Fans During ‘American Idol’ Audition

Season 22 of the hit show American Idol began last week. And that means auditions are officially underway. The audition portion of the show has gained popularity because of how bad some of them are. But every now and then a contestant comes in and leaves the judges amazed.

Emmy Russell, granddaughter of legendary singer Loretta Lynn, did just that.

Lynn is a country music legend. Therefore, it is not likely that Russell will be able to distance himself from his late grandmother’s legacy. But the singer does insist that she is trying to create her own.

“I used to run away from my family heritage and wanted to make my own path,” Russell said. “I feel a deep conviction to thank her, accept her and celebrate her, because she believed in me from the beginning before anyone else. I’m not ashamed anymore. She was never ashamed of me… I am a granddaughter and I am Emmy… she is all part of me!”

Fantasia Barrino reflects on American Idol victory

American Idol has been around for over two decades. So naturally, the program trained some of the best singers in the industry. One of those singers is Fantasia Barrino. Barrino recently starred in the remake of the iconic film ‘The Color Purple.’ The former Idol winner recalled watching her audition with her daughter and simply reflecting on the uncertainty of her future at the time.

“I remember squeezing her hand and saying, ‘Remember, Mom has always told you that I did everything for you,’” Barrino said.

“She looked at me and said, ‘I know, Mommy, and I’m so proud of you.’ And we just cried. We were together in the trenches; It was just her and me. I was a kid and I didn’t know what I was doing. But I knew I was going to take care of her and show her something different.”

Fantasia reveals the dark side of competition

Most contestants think that after winning the competition is when the fun begins. But Barrino shared the dark side of the music industry after his victory on Idol. After being chosen as the winner is when she began to lose the most.

“It was not easy. I lost a lot. I lost everything”. You have to become a businesswoman and you connect with great business partners, but it doesn’t have much to do with love. It took me a long time to realize that,” she said.

“I didn’t know anything about contracts. I didn’t know anything about going through your money and making sure every day your things were where they were supposed to be. “I just trusted and believed in everyone who came into my life.”
