Liz Truss beat British Foreign Secretary Rishi Sunak on Monday to become the third woman to be elected prime minister of the United Kingdom, after Boris Johnson, who served from 2019 to 2022. According to CNBC, approx. 81,326 members of the Conservative Party voted for Truss, while nearly 60,399 voted for Sunak. After the election, the latter took to Twitter to congratulate those who voted for him and rally party members to support Truss.
