Lil Skies was born on August 4, 1998 in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. He started composing songs at the age of four, and was first introduced to music by his father, Michael Burton Jr., formerly known as Dark Skies.
In the third grade, the family moved to Waynesboro, Pennsylvania. When Skies was eleven, a chemical explosion at the Rust-Oleum plant near Williamsport, Maryland, injured his father. In 2016, he received his diploma from Waynesboro Area Senior High School. He then briefly attended Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania before dropping out to pursue music as a full-time career.
