Faiyaz Hussain Shah was born in Pakistan. After completing his formal education, Shah applied for commission in the Pakistan Army as an officer and joined the 80th Long Course of the Pakistan Military Academy (PMA) in Abbottabad, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, where he completed two Took military training for a year.

Faiyaz Hussain Shah was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the 4th Battalion of the Sindh Regiment after completing his training module at the PMA. As he rose up the ranks, Shah held several positions, including company commander, commanding officer (CO) and brigade commander. In February 2018, Faiyaz Shah was promoted to the rank of major general after which he was appointed as the Commandant of the National Defense University (NDU) in Islamabad, Pakistan. In April 2018, he led a team of 21 officers from the Pakistan Armed Forces studying at NDU in Sri Lanka, where they held bilateral defense cooperation meetings with senior Sri Lankan Army officials.
Faiyaz was later posted to Balochistan, where he held the post of Inspector General (IG) of Frontier Corps (FC) (North). There, he played an important role in improving trade relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan by assisting the Government of Balochistan in setting up several trade terminals in places affected due to insurgency. He served as IG till 2021.
On 11 October 2022, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General by the Army, following which he was sent as Inspector General (IG) (Arms) at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi. On 12 May 2023, he replaced Lieutenant General Salman Faiyaz Ghani as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of IV Corps, also known as Lahore Corps. According to reports, Ghani was removed from the command of IV Corps because he went against the direct orders of General Asim Munir and did not order Pakistani Army troops to open fire on protesters trying to enter Lahore Cantonment Was.
