NBA superstar LeBron James has spoken out against the NFL’s decision to suspend Tyreek Hill’s cameraman Kevin Fitzgibbons for his role in the Dolphins receiver’s touchdown celebration during a game in October. James expressed his disapproval in a scathing Instagram post directed at the league Wednesday night.
“Man, this is F’d UP!!! Suspended for a year and possibly forever! Let’s go NFL! Do it better! Shit isn’t that bad,” James wrote on his Instagram, criticizing the league for his decision.
The controversy revolves around an incident during the Dolphins’ game against the Carolina Panthers on October 15. After scoring a touchdown, Hill celebrated by grabbing Fitzgibbons’ camera and performing a backflip selfie. This spontaneous, exuberant celebration caught the attention of fans and media alike, and was considered by many to be one of the highlights of the NFL year.
However, the NFL was not as receptive to the celebration. Referees penalized Hill during the game for wearing a prop and he was subsequently fined by the league. Additionally, they pulled Fitzgibbons’ credentials and suspended him from the bench for the remainder of the 2023 season.
Fitzgibbons, in a video shared on his TikTok account this week, acknowledged the NFL’s decision, expressed gratitude for the opportunity and looked forward to a possible reinstatement next year.
While Hill refrained from publicly commenting on the situation, he hinted at the reason for his silence on his X page, stating, “I would make a comment, but I could be fined.”
