Late night talk shows could return next month after WGA strike ends

With the WGA strike almost over (the contract still needs to be ratified and signed by members), fans are starting to think about when late night talk shows might return.

According Varietymany fan-favorite late-night talk shows, including Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Late Night with Seth Meyers, The Late Show with Stephen Colbertand more, it could return to the air in October.

A handful of insiders told the outlet that the writers hope to return as soon as possible.

“We want to return as soon as possible,” a source shared with the outlet.

Another then added: “I think they’re all leaning forward, like they’re ready to go…. I hope they return on October 2 or 9. I think they will be very motivated to get their teams back to work.”

Although the WGA strike is over, the SAG-AFTRA strike is still in effect. However, late-night talk show hosts are allowed to return as the shows are under a network code that is not part of the strike.

But, as many know, even with that, the hosts may not return so quickly to show solidarity with the SAG-AFTRA actors.

There were also a handful of other talk shows, many of which aired during the day, that were called in as they attempted to return before the strike ended.

If you didn’t know, Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, John Oliver, Seth Meyers and Stephen Colbert launched a podcast to support their unemployed staff last month.
