livelihood
After graduation, Lalit started practicing wrestling at his uncle’s akhara, Lala Ram Vyamshala in Roshanara area of Delhi and started playing at the national level in 63 kg and 68 kg wrestling categories in Delhi and won national and university titles. Won many medals. Games of the 90s. However, he had to end his wrestling career due to a knee injury. He did not want to give up wrestling, so his uncle advised him to get a wrestling coaching certificate. Later, Lalit earned a diploma in wrestling coaching from the National Institute of Sports (NIS) in Patiala. In an interview, Lalit revealed that after his knee injury, he did not want his family’s wrestling legacy to end, so he decided to continue wrestling coaching. He said,
My knee dislocated more often than expected. In the nineties, operation was a scary word and it was even more dangerous for the players because they said it would end their careers. I though fell short of it, since my other brothers were already doing well in fields other than sports, yet there was a desire to keep myself involved in sports and continue the family legacy. At that time Tau ji asked me to get coaching certificate from National Institute of Sports (NIS) in Patiala. Coaching was the only way I could still stay connected to the love of my life.”
In 2006, after he received a Diploma in Wrestling Coaching from the National Institute of Sports, Lalit started working in Bulandshahr as a contracted coach by the Government of Uttar Pradesh. Later, he returned to his uncle’s gym, Lala Ram Vyayamashala in Delhi. After working in his uncle’s gym for some time, he got a job offer as a coach from the Delhi government. In 2010, he started working for the Delhi government as a wrestling coach at the Singhu Sports Complex. In 2012 he was posted to Chhatrasal, where he worked for more than 12 years. Over the years, he has trained many renowned wrestlers like Olympic silver medalists Ravi Dahiya and Deepak Punia. He has also trained World Championships silver medalist Aman Sehrawat, who won a bronze medal at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.

Facts/General Knowledge
- In an interview, Lalit talked about his daily routine while working at Chhatrasal Academy, Delhi and revealed that his day starts at 5:00 am in winters and 4:30 am in summers. He also said that he works in shifts of 5 hours in the morning and 5 hours in the evening. He said,
At 5 am in winter and 4.30 am in summer, I am at Chhatrasal Akhara, no matter the weather. This is not negotiable for me, I stay for a five-hour shift with the wrestlers in the morning and then do official work till I return. [wrestling] “Three o’clock in the evening and mat for five hours.”
