Danish started his political journey with Janata Dal (Secular) and rose to the post of All India General Secretary of the party. In 2002, he contested the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections from Garhmukteshwar constituency but lost. In 2018, he played an important role in forming the coalition government between Congress and Janata Dal (S) in Karnataka. He also played an important role in establishing the pre-poll alliance between the Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party and the Janata Dal (S).
In March 2019, he joined BSP which declared him as its candidate in the Lok Sabha general election from Amroha constituency.
He won the election by defeating Kanwar Singh Tanwar of Bharatiya Janata Party by a margin of about 63,000 votes and became a Member of Parliament. Danish is the leader of the Bahujan Samaj Party in the lower house of the Parliament.
