Kumud Mishra is a popular Bollywood and theatre actor. He is well known for playing the role of ‘Khatana Bhai’ (canteen man) in the movie Rockstar (2011).

Kumud was born in Chakghat, Rewa, Madhya Pradesh. He completed his schooling from Rashtriya Military School in Belgaum, Karnataka. Later, he returned to Bhopal to complete his graduation in History and Political Science.

Kumud belongs to a Hindu family. His father was in the Indian Army, and he was a theatre artist too. He used to encourage Kumud to join theatres in Bhopal.
Kumud got married to Ayesha Raza on 9 February 2008. Ayesha is a Bollywood actress, and she has appeared in Bollywood movies including Dhoom (2004), Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety (2018), and Bharat (2019). They have a son, and his name is Kabir or Kabbu.
Career
Kumud was encouraged by his father to join the theatre as an actor. He joined the ‘Bharat Bhavan Culture Centre’ in Bhopal. He acted in a few plays there and worked with the famous theatre directors like Sachin Tiwari, John Martin, Alok Nandan, Bansi Kaul and many more. He got the opportunity to work with Prabhat Ganguly’s ‘The Little Ballet Theatre.’ In 1989, he also participated in the festival of India in USSR.
Later, in 1990, he joined the prestigious ‘National School of Drama’ in Delhi, and he did a diploma in acting from there. The famous theatre actor and director ‘Satyadev Dubey’ was his guru. Once, Satyadev called him to Mumbai for the audition of ‘The Making of the Mahatma (1996)’ which was to be directed by Shyam Benegal. Kumud and Rajit Kapoor were selected as top two candidates, but, finally Rajit was selected.
He has been a part of the famous ‘Prithvi Theatre’ for more than 20 years.
In 1995, he appeared in the TV serial ‘Swabhimaan’ which was aired on DD National.
He got his first break in the Bollywood movie ‘Sardari Begum’ (1996). But, it did not help him to get good movie projects. So, he continued acting in theatres only.
In 2007, he was roped in for the movie ‘1971’ starring actors Manoj Bajpaiyee and Ravi Kishan. But, he came into the limelight with the movie ‘Rockstar’ (2011). He played the character of ‘Khatana Bhai’ in the movie. His dialogues which became very popular are-
Shiddat honi chahiye pyar me, dard hona chahiye. Ye koi pyaar vyar nahi hai, dil ka tootna nahi hai, ocha pan hai ye

After that, he appeared in many Bollywood movies such as: Ranjhanaa (2013), Revolver Rani (2014), Lekar Hum Deewana Dil (2014), Badlapur (2015), Airlift (2016), Sultan (2016), Rustom (2016), MS Dhoni: The untold story (2016), Rock On 2 (2016), Jolly LLB 2 (2017), Article 15 (2019), and P Se Pyaar F Se Faraar (2019).
‘D for DRAMA’ is a Theatre group formed by Kumud and two more members. In 2017, his theatre group directed the play ‘Dhumrapaan,’ which was selected for META awards 2017 (with nominations in 5 categories).
In 2017, he was seen in the web series TVF Tripling – season 1.
He acted in the short film ‘Laddoo’ (2019). It was directed by Neeraj Pandey and Plan C Studios and produced by Shital Bhatia.
