Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani was born as Kokilaben Patel on 24 February 1934 (age 84 years; as in 2018) in Nawanagar State, British India (now Jamnagar, Gujarat, India). He was born in a conservative but supportive Gujarati family. She was born and raised at a time when Indian women still had restrictions and could not read. However, his family, especially his father, knew the importance of education in an individual’s intellectual development and self-improvement; Therefore, he prevented Kokilaben and her siblings from receiving education. She did her matriculation (10th class) from Sajuba Girls High School, Jamnagar. At the age of 21, she married businessman Dhirubhai Ambani and came to Mumbai.
