Koda, a famous Ghanaian gospel musician, has passed away at the age of 45 after a reported battle with kidney disease.
According Pop culture, The news came out through various media outlets, including Modern Ghana. However, there was an official confirmation from Nii Okai, a fellow gospel singer and friend of the late musician.
“KODA passed into glory in the early hours of Sunday, April 21, 2024,” Okai told radio station Joy FM. “Please pray for the family as we all process the news of his transition.”
No further details regarding the late musician’s death have been revealed or confirmed.
MyJoyOnline also reported that KODA, whose full name was Kofi Owusu Dua Anto, was a gospel singer, as well as a songwriter, music producer and multi-instrumentalist. He was based in Takoradi, which is located in the western region of Ghana.
Among those for whom he produced music were Danny Nettey, Ps. Joe Beecham and Okai. For his own music, he made three studio albums, two live albums and two instrumental/jazz albums. His best-known songs were Hossana, Nkwaa Abodo, and Adoosa.
KODA was director of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) mass choir after graduating from the university. He had also been director and instrumentalist of the “Music Wing of Baptist Student Union” and “KNUST’s Simply Jazz Crew”, “the instrument of God”. He was notably the lead in “Da Project.”
KODA was married to fellow singer Equrama Dua Anto. They shared three children.
Fans react to news about KODA’s death
Just after news broke about KODA’s sudden passing, fans of the musician took to social media to share their reactions.
“Oh no. No no no. Omg,” one fan wrote. “One of my favorite gospel guys. Pure gospel artist.”
Another fan said the news was very sad. “I don’t know why or what is happening but may God protect us all,” they said. wrote. “And our loved ones out there.”
“I’ve been enjoying this song without knowing the artist,” a new fan then shared. “Unfortunately, I have just discovered his face and his name, and they are accompanied by the news of his death. Rest in peace to him.”
Many fans also seemed unaware that KODA had been battling kidney disease at the time of his death. “Oh, how? Was he sick?” asked a fan, who was unaware of KODA’s cause of death.
