Khesri Lal Yadav was born as Shatrughan Kumar Yadav on 15 March 1986 (age 37 years; as in 2023) in Siwan district of Bihar. His zodiac sign is Cancer.
Being from a very poor family, Khesari never got a chance to study properly. He spent most of his childhood working with his father to support his family.

Once Khesari had created controversy by saying that Bhojpuri film industry is nothing without him, Pawan Singh and Dinesh Lal Yadav. There was immediate reaction from people, Bhojpuri stars and media. Later, he spoke about the controversy through live Facebook chat and said that he is being defamed at the expense of those who want to gain popularity.

- When he was a child, he used to talk a lot while singing Ramayana or Mahabharata. Because he talked a lot, he came to be known as ‘Khesari’, a lentil notorious for causing indigestion or diarrhoea.
- During his struggling days he used to sing and dance in local marriage ceremonies.
- Khesari even had to sell Litti Chokha (an Indian dish famous in Bihar, Jharkhand and parts of Uttar Pradesh) along with his wife Chanda to support his family.
- His father threw him out of the house for stealing ₹10.
- He got a job in BSF, which he left for his passion of singing and dancing.
- After leaving the job, he used the money saved from the job to release his own albums which proved to be a flop.
- In an interview, Khesari Lal Yadav talked about the Pulwama attack on 14 February 2019. He openly challenged the terrorists and warned that if they do not like humanity and peace, then they should come to the battlefield and fight.
