Kevin Spacey Found Innocent in UK Sexual Assault Trial

Kevin Spacey has not been found guilty.

The 64-year-old American Beauty actor was facing nine charges from four different men in a trial in the United Kingdom.

The 12-member jury read out the verdict on Wednesday (July 26), finding the actor innocent of the crimes.

He had pled not guilty to nine charges, from unwanted touching to aggressive fondling to, performing oral sex on an unconscious man. All of the charges were from between 2001 and 2013, most during the time period when he was the artistic director of London’s Old Vic theater from 2004 to 2015.

There were 12 charges when the trial started, and an additional count of indecent assault was added mid-trial. All four indecent assault charges were then dropped due to a “legal technicality.”

The actor denied all the charges, describing two of the sexual encounters as consensual and a third as a “clumsy pass,” for which he says he attempted to apologize. The fourth encounter he denied, saying accusers were motivated by money.

Prosecutor Christine Agnew called him “sexual bully” who used his celebrity to get what he wanted, and called him someone who “it would seem delights in making others feel powerless and uncomfortable.”

“I know that there are people right now who are ready to hire me the moment I am cleared of these charges in London. The second that happens, they’re ready to move forward,” Kevin said in an interview, via THR.

Two big stars also testified in his defense.
