Ready to share exciting news, Katie Couric announced that she is a grandmother with a series of snaps featuring her newborn grandson.
In the sweet Instagram post, Couric revealed that her eldest daughter, Ellie Monahan, gave birth to her first child, a boy, with her husband Dobrosky. The couple named the sweet baby John Albert.
“John Albert Dobrosky was born on schedule, Saturday, March 23 at 8:23 a.m., weighing just under seven pounds,” Katie Couric shared. “He will be called Jay in honor of his maternal grandfather. “Albert is after Mark’s paternal grandfather.”
Couric further revealed that Ellie and Mark are “over the moon” excited for their son. “I am delighted to have my first grandchild, [her younger daughter Caroline Monahan] I can’t wait to be a cool aunt and [her husband John] Molner enjoys hanging cigars. We feel very blessed.”
Fans quickly took to the Instagram post to congratulate Katie Couric on the exciting new addition to the family. “Good luck Jay! He has fantastic parents and a lot of love from many,” one fan wrote.
Another fan added: “Congratulations Katie. He is beautiful. And I love how he looks at Ellie. Sweet family of 3.”
Katie Couric shares more details about the day she became a grandmother
In a post on her eponymous website, Katie Couric opened up about the exciting moments leading up to the birth of her grandson, John Albert.
“On Saturday at 8:23 a.m. I officially became a grandmother,” Couric said. “My son-in-law Mark suggested that Molner, Carrie and I arrive at the hospital at 8:30 a.m. But it took Ellie less than an hour to deliver the baby. (Special thanks to everyone at St. John’s Hospital!) When we left the maternity ward, Mark had sent us a text that said, “IT’S A BOY!” “They were getting Ellie ready for visitors and we sat in the waiting room like kids on Christmas morning.”
After what seemed like an eternity, Katie Couric and the rest of the family were able to enter the room to meet the newborn. “Ellie looked exhausted but beautiful. And Mark was sitting in a chair with his shirt off so he could have skin-to-skin contact with his new son, John Albert Dobrosky. “Who arrived weighing 6 pounds, 15 ounces and was 19 and a half inches long.”
Couric went on to add that watching your baby have a baby is crazy. “Ellie had an easy pregnancy and she took very good care of herself. I know she will be a wonderful mother and I know Mark will be an equal father. Jay was like that. He makes all the difference in the world.”
