Kate Middleton is recovering in hospital following “planned” abdominal surgery, Kensington Palace announced.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Kensington Palace revealed that the Princess of Wales underwent the procedure yesterday and could remain hospitalized for some time, which would prevent Middleton from attending any engagements until Easter.
“The surgery was successful and he is expected to remain in the hospital for ten to fourteen days, before returning home to continue his recovery,” the statement said. “Based on current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter.”
“The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate. She hopes the public understands her desire to maintain as much normality as possible for her children; and her desire that her personal medical information remain private,” the statement continued. “Therefore, Kensington Palace will only provide updates on Her Royal Highness’s progress when there is significant new information to share.”
“The Princess of Wales would like to apologize to all those affected for having to postpone her upcoming engagements. “She hopes to reintegrate as many as possible, as soon as possible,” she added.
Kate Middleton’s surgery was reportedly due to a non-cancerous problem.
Kate Middleton will recover at home after being discharged from hospital
Following her release from hospital, Kate Middleton will recover at her home in Windsor. While Kate Middleton remains in hospital, Prince William will not take on any official duties.
Once she returns home, he will return to his duties, although he will reportedly reduce them to have more time to devote to Princess Kate during her recovery. He will also help care for his three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
Princess Kate’s last public appearance occurred at Christmas, when she took the annual walk to church with the rest of the royal family.
Meanwhile, Prince William made his first official exit of 2024 last week. The prince met his friends Rob Burrow and Kevin Sinfield at Headingley Stadium in Leeds.
