Christina Aistrup Hansen (Josephine Park), a nurse, is found guilty on four counts of attempted manslaughter in Kasper Barfoed’s Danish thriller series The Nurse. The series follows Pernille Kurzmann (Fanny Louis Bernth) as she begins her first job at the Nykbing Falster Hospital in Denmark right out of nursing school. There, she quickly befriends Christina, a fellow nurse who is well-liked and respected, but Pernille soon realises there’s more to her coworker than meets the eye.
The revelations Kurzmann made about Hansen resulted in one of Denmark’s most distressing criminal prosecutions.
The series’ tragic events are based on a genuine scenario that Danish writer Kristian Corfixen wrote about in his book The Nurse: The genuine scenario Behind One of Scandinavia’s Most Notorious Criminal Trials, contrary to what viewers may believe.

Real-life Christina Aistrup Hansen was first given a life sentence in a Danish prison for three charges of murder following a trial that lasted almost a month.
Her charges were changed from three counts of murder to four counts of attempted manslaughter following a review, and the High Court court subsequently reduced her sentence to 12 years in prison. In addition, she was stripped of her nursing licence. Hansen will be released in 2028 after completing his 12-year term.
When Corfixen interviewed Hansen in jail for the book on which the series is based, Hansen reportedly said (via Digital Spy): “Many in here talk of one day reaching a point where you come to grips with your judgement.

Kurzmann is still employed by Nykbing Falster Medical Centre. When she married Dr. Niels Lunden, who also appears in the series and assisted her in discovering Hansen’s crimes, she changed her name.
