Karl Lagerfeld’s beloved cat Choupette released a statement about his absence from the 2023 Met Gala

Fans expected Karl Lagerfeld’s beloved cat to make a red carpet appearance at the 2023 Met Gala. However, it wasn’t meant to be.

If you didn’t know, the late designer and his art inspired the theme for this year’s biggest night in fashion. Karl passed away in 2019, but his pet Choupette is still alive and well.

There were rumors that she would appear in his memory, but she released a statement a few hours before the event began to let fans know why she would be missing it.

“Thanks a million to all of you my fans, animal lovers, and daddy admirers,” Choupette’s new owner wrote in an Instagram post on Monday (May 1). “You all have shown the kindest enthusiasm and unconditional support, I say MERCI! Many people invited me to walk the red carpet at #METGALA2023 as a tribute to dad, but we prefer to stay calm and comfortable at home. We pay tribute to my Papi every day since his departure and we are very excited to see another day dedicated to him ”.

While Choupette didn’t make it to the 2023 Met Gala, several celebrities paid tribute to the graceful feline. Doja Cat achieved an epic transformation into what many believe to be Karl’s beloved cat with the help of prosthetics. Jared Leto took a more literal approach, donning a cat costume complete with a furry mask before switching to a second look.
