K Vidya is an Indian former SFI (Students Federation of India) leader, who is accused of submitting fake experience certificates of Maharaja’s College, Ernakulam, a government college in Kerala, to secure a job in the Malayalam department of RGM Government College, Attappady, Palakkad district. As per reports, Vidya submitted forged experience documents and certificates while appearing for the job interview for the post of Guest Lecturer in Malayalam department of RGM Government College of Attappady in Palakkad district on 2 June 2023. On Wednesday 7th June 2023, the matter attracted public attention when the RGM College authorities sent Vidya’s experience certificate to the Principal of Maharaja College when they had doubts regarding the authenticity of the certificate. According to reports, Vidya had earlier also worked at Karinthalam College in Kasaragod from June 2022 to March 2023 using the same fake certificate. The case received coverage in the media when another controversy involved PM Arsho, state secretary of the SFI (Students Federation of India). It was learned that Arsho’s marksheet indicated that she had passed the exam at Maharaja’s College without appearing for it. Arsho, a student of MA archaeology, clarified that he had not written any paper during the third semester examination, which led to the allegations. Maharaja College officials concluded that it was due to a software error in the National Informatics Center (NIC). The Principal of Maharaja College confirmed that Vidya has forged documents in the name of the college and confirmed that they have not appointed a single person as guest faculty in the Malayalam department for the last 10 years. On this the Maharaja College officials lodged a complaint against Vidya. The Ernakulam Central Police registered a case against Vidya on a petition filed by the Maharaja’s College authorities, where Vidya was using forged experience documents, stating that she had worked as an assistant professor on a contract basis in the college from June 2018 to March 2019 and from June 2020 to March 2021.

As per the FIR report, the charges registered are sections 465 (forgery), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating), and 471 (using a document or electronic record knowing it to be forged) of the Indian Penal Code. The case was later transferred to Agali police station as RGM College falls under its jurisdiction. On Wednesday, June 21, 2023, the police took Vidya into custody from Mappayur in Kozhikode. Vidya was taken from her friend’s house in Meppayur around 7 pm. Police said they managed to trace Vidya with the help of her friends’ mobile phone calls and tower location.

As per reports, it has been found that the SC/ST cell of Kalady Sri Shankaracharya Sanskrit University in connection with PhD admission of K Vidya indicates that the reservation roster was manipulated during the admission process in 2020. The report also shows the intervention of the Vice-Chancellor’s office in the matter. Due to this, Dr. Bichu Malayil withdraws from academic association with Vidya during her PhD at the university, until Vidya proves herself innocent. According to reports, Vidya has used her forged experience certificate to get a job as a guest lecturer at Government Arts and Science College, Kinnanur, Karindalam, Kasaragod.

- The Congress party accused Vidya of using political connections to obtain forged documents as she was an SFI activist during her college days at Maharaja’s College. However, Education Minister R Bindu claimed that the seal on the certificate was fake and the college had nothing to do with it.
