During his appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show this week, Julianne told Kelly why.
“Because I was like, ‘You know, I want to be a respected actress and singer. I don’t want to be on a competition show, you know, dancing,’” she shared. “I was like, you know, this is what I want to do. This is my path and then I thought, well, I guess it’s nice to be able to have that as my day job.”
Julianne was only 18 years old when she was offered the show.
She ended up joining the show after that initial rejection, calling it a life-changing decision.
“It was so wild. I mean, overnight, I had just finished high school, basically, and then I got into the show.”
Julianne won the mirror ball trophy twice: in season 4 with Apolo Anton Ohno (her debut season) and then in season 5 with Helio Castroneves.
