Jok Singh (real name Nishant Tanwar) is a famous Indian comedian and live streamer. He is one of the most prominent Indian stand-up comics, and is considered a pioneer of Indian stand-up comedy.

After finishing college in Jamnagar, Nishant started working in a BPO in Gurgaon in 2003. It was here that he met Rukshi for the first time. Rukshi left that job to study mass communication and later joined NDTV as a television producer. Nishant followed him to NDTV and got a job as an intern there. Soon, he was promoted to assistant producer.

Nishant started doing open mics in 2009. He left his job at NDTV in 2012 to pursue stand-up comedy full-time.
When Nishant Tanwar started stand-up comedy
The beginning of Nishant’s career was very bad. In an interview, during his special ‘The Mahacool Tour’, he said,
Papa gave me the idea of joining a business with a cousin brother. That too was not understood because since childhood I had a desire to do something different, something my own and something out of proportion. Survive for a few years by stealing from Jamnagar and getting a job in a call center in Delhi. After that he got a job in a news channel. While working there, he also opened a small restaurant in Malviya Nagar, Delhi. Everything was going well until one day it too got sealed in the sealing drive. After that I tried to start an online portal. Which could not even go live due to my lack of planning and business understanding. I have seen a lot of failure but I haven’t lost the habit of working beyond my limits. Doing it once again…Mahakool Tour of 17 cities.”
Nishant has performed in more than 14 countries (as of 2020) such as USA, UK, Canada, Australia, Singapore and many more. He is one of the very few Indian comedians who has appeared on Comedy Central’s site and & TV’s popular show ‘Comedy Dangal’. Amazon Prime released its two comedy specials titled ‘Dilli Se Hoon B*@!&#%D’ in 2018 and ‘Gaadi Tera Bhai Chalega’ in 2019.
Nishant also performs improv comedy, a style of comedy in which the acting is unplanned or unscripted. He also founded IPL (Improv Premier League), one of the best improv comedy groups in Delhi. He started a show called ‘Please Interrupt’, which was based on the interaction between the comedian and the audience.

- Nishant was an introvert in school. In an interview he said,
I was the youngest in my class and everyone bullied me a lot. Humor was always a defense mechanism against bullying, as I would give unbeatable comeback jokes to my bullies. This is how my sense of humor gradually developed.”
- In 2012, while working in NDTV, Nishant got his photo published on page 3 of a newspaper while doing stand-up comedy. His boss gave him an ultimatum that he would have to quit his job if he wanted to continue stand-up comedy. He chose stand-up over his job and according to him, it is the best decision he has ever taken.
- Nishant has got 3 tattoos made on his body. He has a tattoo on his right bicep that reads ‘Joke’ and a mic in the middle. Another is on his right arm, and a Chinese character is on his left bicep.
- Nishant is a big fan of hip-hop. He released his first rap song “Mere Desh Ki Kahani” in 2020 to celebrate 74 years of India’s independence.
- He has a podcast titled “Mahakool Baatein” on his YouTube channel, where he interviews other stand-up comedians and influencers.
