Biography of Johnny Rotten
John Joseph was born on January 31, 1956 in London. He is the son of Eileen Lydia and John Christopher Lydon. He spent his summer holidays in his mother’s native County Cork, where he was bullied for his English accent, despite traveling on an Irish passport. Since his mother was regularly ill, Ivan was obliged to take care of his four brothers as the first born. As a child, he was a member of a neighborhood gang and often got into fights with other groups.
He would poop his pants. He was too afraid to ask the teacher to excuse him from class. Lydon contracted spinal meningitis when he was seven and spent a year in St Ann’s Hospital in Haringey, London, experiencing hallucinations and severe memory loss that lasted four years.
Nurses used a needle to drain fluid from his spine as part of the treatment. He got his first job at the age of ten as a minitaki dispatcher for a year because his family was in financial difficulties. He completed his O-levels at school and fell out with his father, who didn’t like Lydon’s long hair, so he dyed it light green instead. He was expelled from school at the age of fourteen after an argument with his teacher and went to Hacky College.
