John Roland Wikipedia News Host, Obituary, Wife, Md, Bekley – John Roland, who worked for Channel 5 in New York for more than three decades as a reporter and presenter, is over. died on Sunday, Fox Television reported. He was 81 years old.

Roland left KTTV in Los Angeles in December 1969 to work as a principal correspondent for sister station Metromedia WNEW in New York. Before taking over Bill Jorgensen on the 10 p.m. prime time slot in 1979, he covered politics on weekdays and hosted 10 p.m. shows on weekends. (The station was acquired by News Corp. and Fox in 1986 and renamed WNYW.)

Roland retired to Florida in June 2004 after leaving the 10pm slot in 2003 to broadcast brand new 5pm and 6pm newscasts.

Roland, a native of Pittsburgh, attended California State University, Long Beach, graduating in 1964. Two years later, he joined NBC News in Los Angeles. He covered the 1968 assassination of Robert F. Kennedy and other breaking news for KTTV.

Three gunmen stormed the Old Racing Club in Manhattan in 1983 while Roland and a friend were having a late dinner there. They ask for money. Before the two other bandits attacked him, Roland shot one of them in the leg after disarming him.
