Biography of Joel Spolski
Joel Spolsky was born in 1965 in New York in a Jewish family. Joel grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and remained there until his mid-teens. Joel later moved with his family to Israel, where he finished high school and served in the Army in the Parachute Brigade.
Joel was one of the founders of Kibbutz Hanaton in the Lower Galilee, and later returned to the United States to complete his education. Joel Spolsky attended the University of Pennsylvania for a year before transferring to Yale. Joel attended Pierson College and graduated in 1991 with a summa cum laude degree in Computer Science.

After five years, Joel founded Fog Creek Software and created Joel on Software, one of the first blogs created by a business owner.
Joel Spolsky appeared in and co-produced Aardvark’d: 12 Weeks with Geeks in 2005. It was a documentary about the development of the Fog Creek Aardvark project, which was a remote support equipment.
