Jimmy Kimmel reveals an incident that tempted him to cross the picket line during the strike (and that involved Donald Trump)

Jimmy Kimmel returned to the air for a new episode of his late-night show Jimmy Kimmel Live on Monday (Oct. 2) after a months-long hiatus due to the writers’ strike.

As the 55-year-old comedian walked off the air in solidarity with writers on his team and elsewhere, he joked about the one situation that tempted him to cross the picket line during his first night back.

The moment in question involved Donald Trump.

During a monologue, Jimmy reflected on everything that was going on with the former president in the news, and shared that people always asked him if he was “disheartened” about missing the opportunity to joke about the incidents.

“And above all I was fine,” he admitted. “But what really got me was when Trump was booked in Georgia and he self-reported that he weighed 215 pounds. “I almost crossed the picket line for that.”

This was a reference to when Donald was charged and booked into the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta, Georgia, in August. He reported that he weighed 215 pounds at the time, which raised questions from many who believed he was lying.

“If I were the judge in the case you have in New York right now, I would start the process and say, ‘now listen.’ Look, we’re going to get to the fraud thing, but first it comes out on this scale, big fella,’” Jimmy joked.

He went on to say, “If you weigh 215 pounds, that means you are 30 pounds lighter than your last physical when you were president. He weighed 245 pounds, which means either he’s lying or he’s now frying his chicken at Ozempic.”

Donald’s reported weight sparked many memes at the time. It also drew comparisons between him and a beloved Marvel actor, who weighed the same when he starred in his first franchise film.

Jimmy isn’t the only comedian returning to late-night television. He finds out who else has already scheduled a first episode of their show after the strike.
