Jimmy Buffett’s daughter breaks her silence after his death.
Over the weekend, it was announced that the “Margaritaville” singer had passed away at the age of 76 following a battle with skin cancer.
On Wednesday (September 6), Jimmy’s daughter Delaney took to Instagram to write a touching tribute to her father.

“I knew my father all my life, but in his final days I saw who he was as a man whose spirit could not be broken,” Delaney, 31, wrote. “Despite the pain, he smiled every day. He was kind when he had every excuse not to be. He told us not to be sad or scared, but to continue with the party. And as much as I’d like to use that as an excuse to drink myself into oblivion worthy of his literary heroes, I know that’s not what he meant.”
She continued, “Yes, he loved his weed and his wine, but the truth is that most of the time he was just high on life, and that’s what he wanted for everyone: to enjoy the fantastic journey that life can be. “
“My dad was the joy I sang about. He was the hardest working person I have ever seen in my life. He was a great man and an even better father to my brother, sister and me. He was generous to both his friends and strangers,” Delaney recalled. “He had a deep admiration for the people he worked with and never took himself too seriously, which is probably what I loved most about him.”
Delaney wrote: “When I showed him the South Park episodes that parody him, he loved to laugh. I remember making fun of him for his jokes about blenders in Margaritaville and, without missing a beat, he said, ‘You live off those damn blenders!’ “He took me there.”
Delaney continued to share how important music was to Jimmy, adding that he loved being on stage.
“Over the past few days, people have thanked me for sharing my dad with them, but I know he would have wanted me to thank his fans for sharing their lives with him,” Delaney wrote. “We are his family, but the stage was his home, and you, his band and everyone who was along the way gave him the strength to keep coming back. I’ll tell you something my mom told me: ‘Whenever you feel sad or lost, look for the messages in music.’ There are plenty.'”
Delaney also shared her gratitude for all the doctors and nurses who cared for Jimmy during his battle with cancer.
“My dad repeatedly told us how much he appreciated the doctors, nurses and everyone who was there for him during his battle with cancer,” Delaney wrote. “To those who cared for my dad at home and in the hospital, I want to thank you for giving us more time together. “I am eternally grateful.”
“To the family and friends who supported us during this time, thank you for reminding me of the importance of human connection,” Delaney continued. “I knew laughter was the best medicine, but it has never been truer than now. If we couldn’t laugh, we’d all go crazy.’”
“And thank you all so much for your tributes, stories and notes,” Delaney added. “My dad and I shared a love of words, so reading yours has brightened my darkest hour.”
Delaney concluded his message by honoring Jimmy.
“And finally, to my dad, thank you. You turned nothing into something and gave me everything,” Delaney concluded. “I will never be able to repay you or my mom for my beautiful life. I will love you forever and will always keep the party going (responsibly, of course).
Jimmy is survived by Delaney and his other children, Savannah, 44, and Cameron, 29, as well as his wife of 46 years, Jane.
Stars including Paul McCartney and Viola Davis, along with President Biden, have also paid tribute to Jimmy.
