The first non-American to travel to the moon will be Jeremy Roger Hansen of the Canadian Space Agency (CSA). On April 3, 2023, NASA appointed Roger as an Artemis II Mission Specialist. Christina Koch, a NASA astronaut who will soon make history as the first woman to travel to the moon, was the second major on the Artemis II mission.
NASA astronauts Victor J. Glover and Gregory Reid Wiseman, who will act as flight engineer and mission commander, respectively, will fly on the Artemis II alongside Roger and Koch. The second phase of NASA’s Artemis program is testing the first manned flight, or Artemis II.

Hansen, born in London, Ontario in 1976, holds a bachelor’s degree in space science and a master’s degree in physics. He has three children and is married. Hansen began his aviation career in 1988 when he joined the 614 Royal Canadian Cavalry Squadron in London, Ontario. Hansen earned his Air Cadet pilot wings in Trenton, Ontario in 1992 when he was 16 years old.
Hansen obtained his private pilot license and wings in Cornwall, Ontario in 1993 when he was 17 years old. His admission to the Royal Military College of Saint-Jean in Quebec was the result of his training. After completing basic training in Chilliwack, British Columbia, he began earning his degree at the Royal Military College of Saint-Jean in 1994.
In 1999, Hansen graduated with honors from the Royal Canadian Military College in Space Science. According to the CSA website, Hansen completed his CF-18 fighter pilot training with the 410th Combat Training Squadron in 2003.
From 2004 to 2009, Hansen flew a CF-18 for the 441st Tactical Fighter Squadron and the 409th Tactical Fighter Squadron. In the 4 Operation Wings he also held the position of Operations Officer. Conducting NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command) operations, deployment exercises, and air operations in the Arctic were among Hansen’s duties there. In 2009, the CSA selected Hansen for its third Canadian astronaut recruitment campaign.
After graduating from the astronaut candidate program, Hansen began working as a capcom at the mission control center in 2011. The verbal link between Earth and the International Space Station is called the International Space Station. is Capcom (ISS).
